Course Description:

This course intends to concentrate on the regional conversation in visual art – especially printmaking – by viewing and discussing projects associated with Philagrafika2010. The dialectic between global and local, the expanding identity of printmaking in contemporary art, and other subjects will be addressed.


Requirements:

•Class participation and attendance, no more than one un-excused absence; 3 or more absences constitute failure of the course.

•Critical Dialogue: participation in all class critiques and discussions.

•Throughout the semester we will work to establish a thoughtful environment for in depth discussion.  We are a small group your contributions are crucial.

•Initiate an on-line discussion of a Philagrafika-related exhibit or event in spring 2010.

•Participate in on-line discussions initiated by your peers and class follow-ups.

•Guest Artist presentation to a Foundation or other course: arrange with instructor to visit their class as a guest artist to present your work.  Arrangements must be made by February 5.  Presentation must be made by April 16.  It should be 30 minutes long, the host instructor will observe and comment on the presentation.

•Attend three print exhibitions relevant to the discussion of the course in addition to our visits.  Post a 150-300-word diary response to one of the exhibitions.
